Ek Balam Experience

Ek Balam Experience

EK BALAM

Ek Balam, is a Mayan archaeological site in Yucatan, Mexico. It is located 30 km north of the city of Valladolid, 2 km from the Mayan town of Ek Balam. In Yucatec Maya, Éek 'Báalam means "Black Jaguar" (Ek, black, Balam, jaguar). From the year 300 a. C. until the arrival of the Spaniards. The human settlement in Ek Balam came to have about 12 km2, which included a sacred central space of 1 km2, where the elite resided.

This small central area was protected by three walls. It was a very rich Mayan capital called Talol that had been founded by Éek'Báalam (dark jaguar) or Coch CalBalam. He dominated a very populated region. In the first years of the 11th century, a foreign invasion possibly of the Itzaes subjected the power centers of Ek Balam and Yaxuná.

Most of the buildings are from the end of the classical period. The entrance to this site protected by two walls begins with a magnificent Mayan arch, then the buildings of the ceremonial center, the oval palace and a good size Mayan ball game

Reasons Why Travel Makes You a Happier Person

1. FIND YOUR SELF-CONFIDENCE BY DEALING WITH UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS

There comes a time when everyone must deal with an unexpected situation when they’re on the road. Even if you plan your trip to the letter, things can take a surprise turn. Whatever happens, there is a way around the problem and knowing that you can deal with these situations is a big boost to self-confidence and therefore your happiness.

2. HAPPINESS IS INFECTIOUS

When locals are happy, smiling and friendly, it has an immediate knock-on effect. I found the people of Cambodia and Laos to be notably friendly and cheerful, despite the relative poorness of these countries and the former in particular having a very recent traumatic history. When faced with those big beaming smiles, it’s hard to be annoyed at the hassling you might experience at busy sites like Angkor Wat; putting that knee-jerk irritation to one side instantly lifts your mood and is a good habit to take home.
